A week with the little guys
This week I had two classes each day. In the mornings I had Kindergarteners, in the afternoon, first and second graders. With the Kindergarteners we worked throughout the week to put together a 20 minute play with them that was performed for their parents this morning. The teacher I assisted for this class was wonderful to work with. She was very prepared, but flexible enough to change the schedule around based on what we accomplished or based on the energy of the kids. The kids were great, very excited to be doing their first play. We helped them make all of their costumes and coached them through their story, as well as played very basic social games with them. The afternoons were a bit different. We spent each day with the kids performing a different storybook variation of Goldylocks and the Three Bears. The kids enjoyed it the first day, but they seemed to grow tired of the story as the week progressed. I would have rather done a different fairy tale with the kids every day, and pick from that selection to perform for the parents on Friday, maybe do a class involving several different Aesop's Fables or something similar. As an intern, I do not have the opportunity to make lesson plans or design any classes, but it's been interesting to see different teaching styles from the various Playhouse teachers. Next week is Harry Potter Week, which I'm looking forward to.
