Howdy do,
Opening weekend went very well with above expected attendance. We had crowds of about 100 in a house that seats roughly 140. Word of mouth will definitely bring in large audiences for the remaining shows. The entire cast is getting more comfortable in their characters' skins, so the show is really taking on a life of its own.
We go out in costume to greet the audience after each show. This is a practice we used at Treasure Village but don't follow in my experience with ISU Theatre. I'm beginning to see the merits and demerits of such a practice. At Treasure Village, the children loved all the characters -even if they avoided the "bad guys." The same holds true with adults. I play a "bad guy" in this show, and I can feel the disapproval especially from some of the older ladies in the crowd. I've also gotten positive feedback on my character from people more familiar with theatre, and sometimes its fun to be hated. I definitely appreciate stepping back into my own skin after the show is over.
We're having a pick-up rehearsal tonight. It will be nice to see the cast again. We've undoubtedly grown into a dysfunctional family complete with weird uncles and those cousins you avoid at family get-togethers. It's very intriguing to people watch in any cast.
I suppose that's all for now. Keep living the dream,
Brandon
