Yes, you read that right--TWO shows dressing on alternate nights! Last night was "Faust", and it was a bear, mainly because of its massive size. I went in to work at 9AM, and didn't get home until almost midnight! Today, we started work at 10AM (Woo hoo!) and I was home by 11, after "Boheme" rehearsal. Whew! (Well, I didn't have to stay for the ENTIRE rehearsal, just until I was released by the Costume Shop Manager.) Sunday's off, then we go back and start it all over again on Monday! Each show has 2 more dress rehearsals, (that I will NOT be required to work--I'll watch final dress), then the season opens on Friday with "Faust", then "Boheme" on Saturday. 2 down, 3 to go! But I'm going to bed now! Happy Sunday, everyone!
To get an insider's view of what we do, go to the Santa Fe Opera web page, and check out "The Back Deck", their blog. There was a great article about Lara Berich, one of the drapers in the Costume Shop, and how she created a fat suit for one of the "supers" in "Faust". Really cool! And other articles about props, sets, etc., for the rest of you production types!
Good night!
