Today in class we introduced the sound ball game to the kids, where we pass around an imaginary ball that can grow or shrink with each pass, and is accompanied by a sound each time the ball is handed to someone. Because the students have a difficult time with abstract concepts like this, we started out by practicing just the imaginary ball part without sound. The kids got very involved in the game to the point where the student next to me made his ball too big for him, and he collapsed and was "trapped" beneath it. Fortunately, another student picked the ball up off of his peer, shrunk it down to a manageable size, and passed it to me.
We also had a going-away party for one of our teachers, a therapist who got a job in Arizona. The students and teachers were all sad to see her go, as the class was her original idea, and many of the students had grown close to her. Kim has been interviewing people to take her place, but they will have some very large shoes to fill.
