Character Role

Recently I auditioned for a film company down in Des Moines, IA and got a role in their latest film. I had previously worked for them this summer on the 48 hr challenge, so when they were looking for people to cast they gave me a call. Shows that no matter how small the project is, it is always best to work your hardest.

The audition was fun. I always enjoy screen acting auditions. They vary from theatre a little bit when it comes to the monologue. I get to be a bit more comedic, which is great. I did one of the monologues I wrote and they laughed a lot so I knew I was off to a good start. Then they had me read for a few of the roles. I gave them my headshot and resume and was done with the audition.

A few days later I received a call from the director saying that there was a new part he wanted me to audition for that he thought I would work well in. Right before the audition that night I got a another call from the director saying there was no need for me to come in. I was a little sad thinking they had cast someone else in the role. However, he then proceeded to inform me that they decided not to audition anyone else and just give me the role. The role contained crying and they had seen me cry that summer in the 48 hour challenge, so they said they knew I could handle it.

My character:

Stephanie- A nurse at the local hospital. One of the patients dies and she has a panic attack. It is the first person she has ever seen die and takes it very personally.

Fun? Not the most happy story in the world, but it is a fun character to play. I'll keep you updated.

The first two weeks

So, the last two weeks have been very busy. I am taking a 5 credit class, a 4 credit class, and working 40 hrs at my internship. The week of June 7 was when my internship started. The whole week we spent during orientation. I met my other team members, interns, as well as learned the different schedules for the camp, the different programs, various activities, and the facilities. The team members became acquainted with each other and the supervising staff. We discussed team building activities to use and how to discipline the children. The interns also decorated the facilities and rooms for the various groups, cleaned, and did other duties to prepare for the camp to start the following Monday (June 14). The first week of camp was the previous week that just ended. It is a little difficult to get the children in control, but it was only the first week. I am a floater which means I get to work with all three ages group. I basically check on all the groups throughout the day and run activities when asked by my fellow team members. I teach dance classes and create arts and craft lessons for each group. This is a very busy summer for me, so I do not know how much I will be be able to blog. Well, back to doing homework...

N.M. Day Three

Today was quite like yesterday. I once again spent the morning painting, and managed to fall into the wet stuff only twice (and only stepped in it once). I once again spent the afternoon visiting businesses and hanging posters, and checking them off my list. But today I worked at it twice as long. And, oh yeah, it rained. The entire time. And I did, in fact, fall in a puddle. I think businesses began to hang my posters out of pity after that. A useful tactic...

New Minowa Day Two

Spent the morning painting. I've mastered the art of painting perfectly straight lines, without tape, on a semi-wrinkly surface (well, maybe not mastered, but have at least attained competence). Spent the afternoon running up and down the length of Decorah's main business district, Water Street. I put up posters in, or provided posters to the owners of, dozens of businesses. Upon arriving home, I recieved a detailed list of dozens of other businesses in Decorah, as well as sites on the Luther campus, that I missed and that will also need posters. I can tell you, publicity is a lot of hoof work!

First day with the New Minowa Players

Today, I met my liason with the New Minowa Players, Sherryl Sheffert, in person, as well as the scenic designer for State Fair. I just finished up a long day of painting, and I've already learned a few valuable lessons. 1) No matter how nice it feels to have your shoes off, don't spend four hours on concrete without them. 2) Perspective drawing is hard. Perspective drawing on a 20ft by 30ft drop is mind-bogglingly so. 3) If you plan things out in charcoal, don't sit on the lines.
